The first one probably went to find a place to die. They sometimes do that. The other two may have been taken or left with some strays.

When cats do not like someting about their present accomodations (the "den"), they up and go to find somewhere that better suits them. Is your home full of kids? Noisy? Is there construction going on? Is it cold? Do they get affection? Clean conditions? Is the place over-crowded with pets and humans (#1 reason cats leave)? Or it may be that you let the cats outside on their own and God forbid, there's an evil teenager in the neighborhood who nabs cats and dogs. Since you have had 3 cats disappear on you, I think its time you assess your home and neighborhood - whether it is pet freindly, you know.
But I am truly sorry that you have lost 3 cats.

The went to another household or have a traffic accident that they were not able to come back anymore or may have died . There are many reasons. Sick cats when they roam around like the one you said(with leukemia) , may have been too weak to come back and died somewhere. Any changes in your household may have been the reason why normal cats go away. Like an introduction of a new pet, or noisy environment, overcrowded place, or something they don't like about the place.

cats often run away. one of my cats went off for two weeks only to saunter back with a collar on! some cats have up to three homes where they go to be fed, its nothing personal though.
but im sorry to say that a good few of my own cats have gone off for a few days and then i find them dead at the side of the road as i live near a moterway. i hope your cat has taken the first option

They die, or they are taken to the shelter where they are adopted or put to sleep. Or someone takes the cat in.
You wouldn't have this problem if you were a responsible cat owner and kept your cats indoors.

I hate to say it, but a cat knows when it is sick or dying. They will go away to die in their own privacy. If they are healthy they were probably stolen.

Someone probably saw the cats wondering around and thought they were strays and took them in.
