I am talking about the tax laws in the USA. The reason why I ask is because one day I might decide to buy an old church and convert it to a Buddhist temple. Will I be exempt?

Step 1, form a non-profit corporation in your state.
Step 2, when you receive the filed articles back, complete IRS Form 1023 and file them with the articles and bylaws.
Step 3, when you receive the IRS exemption, file a set with your state secretary of state or tax authority.
Your entity will likely be classified as a church for purposes of Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3) (exempt organizations) and 170(b) (charitable deductions).

Friend like many you misunderstand the tax laws. The tax exemption is .. churches do not pay tax on the money taken in tithes and offerings.. however.... the pastor pays income tax on any salary or wages he recieves from the church and the church pays property tax on the property of the building and any outside properties.
If items are purchased for the church on the church bank account there is no sales tax included.
But if your thinking you will not have to pay income tax or property taxes .... you will be sadly mistaken.

God bless you will be praying for you

In Canada, all religious institutions are not subject to tax. I am not certain how it applies to cultish-type organizations or civil rights organizations that represent religious groups.
