When we were in college, we found the site where the government breaks down the cost of feeding everything from one individual to a family.

I googled the words "average, food and cost" and the third site listed was the same one we used for our budget, only updated of course!

On this site you can even see what the costs are in your situation for four levels of spending: Thrifty, low cost, moderate and liberal spending. It even breaks down the costs of food according to age and whether it is for a male or female child or adult.

For instance, the "thrifty" amount for a child ages 9-11 is:
this month is $25.50 per week. The thrifty weekly amount for an adult female ages 20-50 is $ 29.00.

On the other hand, at the liberal, high end of weekly food costs for the same aged child and adult female are $48.40 and $57.40 per week. These do not include eating out.

It is updated every three months according to price polls throughout the United States. I hope you will find it as usefull as we did!

I would say about $50-$60 a week for the both of you. You can always find good deals in stores when they mark down things that are going out of date but are still good. Also use coupons they help in saving alot on groceries. If your store has a card you can use to take a certain amount off, or buy one get one free, always use that card. Winn Dixie is agreat store for that, I'm always shopping there and getting great deals, with what I save, I spend about 70 on groceries on 5 people, before I got smart and started using the card and coupons and the marked down intems i was spending about 130-140 a week.

If the person was a very careful shopper and didn't buy a lot of frozen food or high-priced meat, I think about $70 a week. If there was super-careful budgeting, an adult and a child may be able to live (somewhat uncomfortably) on $50 a week.

if you aren't careful you can spend 130 a month
however if you use cupons, gas liter logs, etc.. you can get away wtih $75- 100 a month ( more if you are doing fresh fruits and veggies)

It varies- and depending on how and where they shop - and how old the child is- I would guesstimate 75 dollars a week-D
