Let me tell you this, and trust me when I say it: Buy several bags of baby carrots. Indulge your munchies, it's your oral fixation (the psychological component of the addiction) rearing its ugly head. Fortunately this is something you can indulge, and even get some Vitamin A while you're at it. Don't worry about fighting the head addiction until you've beaten the physical addiction. Chew gum, eat carrots, keep a low/no-calorie drink around (diet coke, unsweetened iced tea: whatever floats your boat).

Good luck on kicking the habit, and if you're ever having an insatiable urge... I've found that doing a quick run (even once or twice around the block) can really help, for a few reasons: A) You will remember why you want to quit (coughing, tightened lungs); B) it will take your mind off of it; C) it will let you take some of your frustrations out on the pavement; and finally D) It's a stimulus to make a FURTHER healthy change in your lifestyle (replacing smoking with running would pretty much rock...).

Good luck, and keep it up!

Well. My best friend is trying to quit smoking. He has only been smoking for about 4 years. He used to smoke Marlboro Reds. Someone Suggested that he switch to menthol cigarettes for a few weeks, then switch to chewing minty gum. I guess because it may have the same/similar flavor as cigarettes. I mean, of course if you're trying to quit, nothing that tastes the same or gives you a nicotine high is going to help the fact that you're supposed to be quitting...But I suppose you could try it. Or you could go to the doctor, they perscribe perscriptions to help with that. I think you should definately quit though. It's a nasty addiction, and it is really bad for not only your health, but the people you smoke around. I suppose it must be hard to quit a bad habit, but you should think of the benefits it will bring you. You're wasting a bunch of money, especially since (where I live) I know they raised the price of them, so it's pretty expensive. You're risking your health. & The people around you, their's as well. I think that's a pretty good reason. Good Luck!

You have a lot of nervous energy. Sugar is a prime substitute.
Especially when you try to quit drinking.

Try chewing gum, this worked for my brother who smoked for more than half of his, and quite heavy.
