She used to be an outdoor cat until I "rescued" her.

Ah! - All cats are descended from royalty! If you don't believe that, just try to deny one of them something and see how imperious their demands will become.

Cats are safer indoors and generally live longer than outdoor or indoor/outdoor cats. I hope you have had your cat spayed; that will make her more amenable to being locked indoors. I would try confining her indoors for several weeks in the hope that she will become accustomed to it. If she still regularly puts a great fuss, I would let her be an indoor/outdoor cat and install a cat door.

Avoiding making her life miserable forever would take precedence over trying to keep her safe indoors.

Yes, it's morally wrong to keep a rescued stray locked in, after the first couple of months. If they run, they run. (big sigh) Don't forget, she's not your cat, you are her person.
As for lineage, probably not, unless it's Felix the Cat. King Lear is a fictional character.

PS: the French had the right idea about royalty

No, not King Lear. Your cat (and my cat and everyone's cat) is a descendant of Queen Hatshepsut of Egypt and is accustomed to being adored. To do less is... how do they say it? "lassaize mageste" - a phrase that means being disrecpectul (too free) with 'magesty' so.. there you go
