Loss of concentration is not listed as one of the side effects of Effexor XR, but of course, the side effects of all drugs are different for each individual.
However, this question aside, it is important to note that Effexor is an antidepressant, and one of the symptoms of depression can be loss of concentration. As a result, Effexor is quite possibly treating a loss of concentration.
It is critical that before you stop taking Effexor XR, you consult with your physician. First, there can be SSRI withdrawals from stopping Effexor (your brain has become used to this drug - you can become extremely irritable when you stop, etc.) Also, you need to consider the idea that when you stop the Effexor, you may actually affect your ability to concentrate - the very thing you are worried about the Effexor having an impact on at college. Usually, any stoppage in a drug such as this, is done gradually under doctor supervision. As someone who has taken these type of drugs (including Effexor,) I strongly recommend this approach.

Keep taking Effexor XR when you go to college. Does it affect your concentration now? If it does, there are many antidepressants that do not.

There is a reason you are taking the Effexor, starting college can be very stressfull. You should keep taking the Effexor until your Dr says you can stop. Trust me on this!!! This is one anti-depressant that you can not just stop taking, you have to ween off of it!!

effexor is anti depressant therapy,if taken under supervision, then there should be no real problems, though it may cause some sedation and drowsiness.
the best way is to consult your psychiatrist,he will give you the best advice.
