Yep there is a way. Got two of those babies myself. I went and found a container just a little bit bigger than the roundness of their snout, and get it about eight inches deep. Make sure you keep water in it at all times. They can drink with out giving their ears a bath, Along with every thing else.

I dont think there is a sure fire way to keep a dogs ears from getting cold or keeping them dry. My dogs ears stay cold, I just have to keep rubbing on them to keep them warm. Some ppl actually tie up their dogs ears, but Im not sure how crazy the dog would be about it. Good luck, though. Sorry I wasnt of much help.

Go to the pet store and buy one of those attatchments that connect to the outside faucets of your house. They look like the nozzle for a garden hose, except it has a small ball on the end. When your dog licks the ball, water is allowed to come out. This way the dogs' ears won't get into thair water bowl, 'cause you've eliminated the bowl!

Funny!

Well, my friend had a basset - and first if it's that cold, try to keep them inside. Poor dogs - even dry they lose a LOT of heat out of their ears!

And, my friend literally would tuck the ears into a doggie sweater in cold months. (Around the back - looks funny, but will keep them out of the water.)

Better dry and funny looking than wet and cold, right?

Best of luck!

Snoods are good but it's hard to put them on every time your dog goes for a drink as you cannot always watch them so I recommend getting a special deep narrow bowl so the ears hang outside of the bowl not in! You can find them at :www.mollycoddled pets.com.au
I think they are called a spaniel bowl because cocker spaniels can use them too.
Hope this helps!

try a real skinny tall drinking container !! only wide enough for their snout so the ears have to fall outside the container !! get it?
also if you cut the sleve off a shirt that has elastic cuffs that makes a great hood that slip over the nose and holds the ears back.:)

If it were my Bassets and I of course would have them indoors, I would construct and "ear holder-upper" out of Velcro. But my idea is rather impractical unless you knew just every time when your doggies wanted a drink.

Maybe buy them a sweater and tuck them in it?

A snood. It is like a piece of fabric that holds their ears up. You could also try a deeper bowl that has a smaller rim.

They shouldn't be out for prolonged amounts of time in 8 degrees anyway. Wet ears are something you just have to deal with.
