Hello! =D All of these are very good questions.
My hubby and I were married for 9 months before left for Basic. If you want the money, you need to get a marriage certificate, because his pay will shoot up.
Our pay went something like this:
During Basic and AIT (where he is currently) we have our base pay, plus housing (around $700-800) and separation pay ($250).
Our first paycheck came a month after he left for Basic, and it was upwards of $1600, including base pay, separation and housing. They deducted some because it was given to David as an allowance for things he needed.
After 4 months, he will automatically get a raise (50 to 100 dollars, I don't remember which). Then, after 6 months of being in the service, he will get rank (go to E-2) which is an additional $500 (approx) raise.
You will earn thousands more if you get married before he leaves for Basic. I highly recommend it.

You cannot move with him during basic training, nor can you get housing during that time. You must wait until you go to your first duty station. If you are married before he goes, YOU will get BAH for your zip code and his rank. It can take a month or longer to get it all going. Extra pay while married is a myth... There is NO extra, other than BAH with Dependants, unless you get stationed overseas, then you also get COLA with dependants and that is based on rank, and amount of dependants. No extra pay while in basic or ait either, infact those will be some of your lowest pay periods, because you have to purchase many things and they take it out of your first several pays.
on a side note going from E1-E2 is NOT a 500.00 pay jump, it may total 500, when you include the BAH increase, but the pay itself is NOT EVEN close to 500 more a month.

Some of the info that the others put out was good, but there is no way in the world that an E-1 will jump 500 dollars in pay when he is pined his E-2. Now for how long it takes to get BAH, that depends on the place your fiance is going, I have seen S-1 take a few months, or as little as a few weeks. Your husband's PAC is what everything depends on. By think of it this way, the longer that they don't pay, the bigger the check you will recieve when they back pay you. But make sure that wherever you for your next duty station, that you get command sponsored prior, that will help with you housing time upon arrival at your new duty station.
Here is a web sitte that backs me up, and that you can also check to see what your base pay will be over the years. feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

HE will be entilted to BAH at the with dependant rate immediately. Housing will NOT be provided for you at all during basic training. schooling, the same deal, unless his school lasts longer than six months, in which case you MIGHT(I stress the word might) get permission to move to where he will be in school. Family Seperation allowance goes into affect on day 31 and is payable at $250/month, retroactive. But if you visit him or he visits you at any point(stopping by his graduation from Basic, for instance) the counter resets to zero.
Expect 6-8 weeks before he gets his first paycheck while in Basic.
Base housing availbility varies from base to base, and is dependant on his paygrade and Bedroom entitlement. I have seen people show up and get housing the same day, I have seen waiting lists as long as three years.
