Self development is viewed as best tool for advancement of individuals in life. There different ways and means of self development. In Indian context we pay our attention more in initial schooling with emphasis on internationally accepted human values which are termed as core values of our living and society. As we advanc we have different stages of self development - in management schools and institutions, professional achievements in qualifications and experience and then in the organised working of business, service and of other organisations at national and international levels. But at times the society demands keeping the basic human values invariably with not much emphasis on other values at large from people. If it is not so then why the people having acquired other achievements aren't present everywhere in the exemplary top positions in the society. How the society be represented and with what returns to the type of individuals?

to me there are 2 stages in our life where self development is most rewarding. firstly, *** of teenage when wecomplete our education and start to live on our own without depending on our elders. Achievement acquired at this stage will be quite rewarding. Secondly, at old age when everybody disown the veterans of the family. its often heard that the oldparents are kicked out by shameless children.they are forced to retire their life at oldage home. self development at this stage will be quite rewarding as it will act as wheelchair to carry on the remaining days. the first is beginning of the life and the later is near end of life.

Divakar Mysore,
The human brain adapts to a certain situation quite automatically unless it is monitored in accordance with the needs of the society and the social environment surrounding us.In this perspective the beginning of teenage, the age of 12 is the right time for any child to be inculcated with efforts for self development. In this era of globalisation and too much of media exposure, children when they reach the age of 12 would be exposed to all kinds of deviations and new vistas of life in all the fields. It is in the next ten years they could be groomed into a right citizen. At this stage the concept of self development would help a lot in building up a personality and self confidence, so that when they come face to face with the realities of life in their 20s and late 20s they would be more confident in facing the situation and withstanding the onslaughts of the life and environment around them.Youth is the gold mine of a civil society and grooming the youth in the right direction at the right time would result in a more egalitarian society. As such self development should start at the teenage itself.

Once we accept that we owe something to the society which has given us the opportunity to become something in our life and do something worthwhile, at that stage self development is most rewarding. What we learn during our formative years is more concerned with 'self' than 'sharing' which is why the definition of success has more emphasis on leaving others behind than taking others along.

There are seven stages in the life of a man according to Indian Culture there are four stages in the life of a human being .1)Brahmacharya Ashram 2)Grihasta Ashram 3)Vanaprastha Ashram 4)Sanyas Ashram. In the first three stages he is educated ,.experiences and grows stronger in spiritual aspects and in the fourth stage he is totally developed and it is rewarding as he renounces all the worldly pleasures and finds bliss in seeking god.According to Shakespeare there are seven stages of man :-infant/child;schoolboy;young man;soldier;judge;middle aged;old age As an infant he cries,as a schoolboy he learns and is educated,as a young man he wastes his time writing poems on love,as a soldier he fights for his country,as a judge he acquires knowledge and at the stage of a judge as he has experienced all things he is developed and starts giving advice to others who are inexperienced .So these are the stages at which a man's self development takes place

Self development starts from school level. For this, value based education is needed. Now a days education is an amount of information that is undigested. There is no character building and moral values attached to it. For this educationists and intelligentia should sit together and formulate education policy that inculcates values thus leading to self development. I support self development should start at an younger age. They will stand as role model for others with their examplery behaviour in the society. Good human values will prevail in the society through society. Coming generations will strive to self develop themselves. It rewards all kinds of people with rich harvest.

Self development is most rewarding at the later stages of our lives. This means maturity on both the intellectual and emotional levels. It is during the times of crisis and distress that a mentally developed personality is fully perceived. Schools and homes must pay more attention to inculcate more human values
and and moral strength in young minds.,rather than instigating
materialistic ideals with little moral values.

I am a Christian and actually there is a degree to which I agree with you. You are able to live a rich, rewarding, loving , happy life without Jesus. Jesus in your heart does complicate things and causes every action to be reconsidered. This is actually very draining sometimes. But I will tell you it is worth it because even though there are times without the wonderful, the rewarding , and the richness, the peace in my heart is what gets me through. So if you are at the bottom of the barell without the peace that is when it concerns me. To each his own and truly if you are living right and are a kind loving person why do you think you are being judged by Christians. It's not the business we are suppose to be in! If you are being judged they are wrong! I am not ticked off that you don't believe in "the sky fairy", I am not ticked off at all! I love you regardless! Michele
