Put a raw potato into the food that you are cooking. It will absorb the salt. If you put to much salt on your food that is already served your stuck with it.

Add sugar or honey to it. Many people would say to add a large peeled potato and let it sit, but this is a myth. All the potato will do is absorb some of the salt water, but will not make the food taste less salty.
You could try both and see what works best for you.

If its a broth or a stew, and its salty, my mother says: "throw a raw potatoe in it and it will soak most of the saltiness out!"

My mother adds just a little bit sugar. It does not make much difference.
