Sorry, my first post and buggered it up.
I am looking at buying a 2nd jeep for towing ( once a mth ) a horse float, which model and year should I be looking at.

My family have said "dont get a jeep " as they are nothing but trouble, but I work in aged care and need to pick up clients for shopping etc and they are small and easy to drive and can tow as well ( so I have heard ).

$$ is very limited so I will prob have to go for an older model.

Sorry for the long post.

My Jeep has 198,000 miles on it and is doing great! I have the high output inline six cylinder and it is still very good on the power and reliability.
I think you could pick one up very reasonable and they just go and go. My friend had a shop where he builds 4X4 vehicles and he rebuilt every wrecked Cherokee he could find because demand oustripped supply for awhile.
You really won't go wrong on one, but get it checked by a mechanic to be on the safe side...
I put somewhat more aggressive tires on mine, but theyare still fairly quiet on the street and it does super in snow and deep mud.

Any older Cherokee and i mean Cherokee not grand Cherokee from the years 1987-2001 are by far, by farrrrrrr. the most durable most reliable vehicle ever made in the history of vehicles. And I'm not a Jeep employee. From 1991-1996 they came with the high output motors which were a gazillion times more power full than the previous ones. The 4.0 inline six with the aw4 auto transmission were a bullet proof combination. You really had to be trying and i mean really if you wanted to ruin either one. I wouldn't think twice about hopping in one that's been sitting in a field for 10 years and taking off across country. yeah their that good.

My jeep cherokee sport, '95 model outpulls my neighbour's cruiser everytime (I know, it's sad that we have stump-pulling contests).
problems include failing central locking and getting stuck in part-time 4wd (can't get back to 2wd without a bit of fiddling).
Nothing wrong with the even older ones and they like to run on ethanol blends which are usually cheaper.

If your going to haul things make sure you get a I6 or a V6. You might want to stick to a standard tran. Your family is wrong in a big way. I have had 5, got over 200,000 one evey one.
