Just remember this. Pepper spray takes several seconds to work, if at all. I have come across several people that are not affected by pepper spray at all, and it only pisses them off. There is a good reason we call peper spray, "dog spray", it only works on dogs.
You can buy a citizens version of a "Taser". It is less powerful and covers less distance, but they are available. They are very costly though, good luck.

I agree with William B... and can only add two points:
1) You'll have to have your canister of "pepper spray" readily and quickly accessible... not buried in a pocket or bag. It isn't like an attacker will give you time to fumble about for it.
2) Stun guns (as opposed to a TASER) require contact for several seconds... That means being and staying within reach which also puts *you* at risk from *him*. Personally, I don't want to be nose-to-nose with an attacker. Pepper spray gives you the tactical advantage of distance by being able to use the spray from beyond reach. If he pursues you, some products form a "cloud" of OC that your attacker will pass through, anointing him with the irritant. Understand that it will take several seconds to take effect, and that effect will vary by where it hits him (eyes, lungs ?) the strength of the OC (2 million Scoville Units or more is best), and the individual's personal sensitivity to the spray In training I've taken multiple OC hits and could still chase my victim for a while, and I am certainly no Superman. Some folks can still even deploy an handgun and get sufficiently good hits to still hurt their victims. And still
other folks simply drop to one knee at the first whiff.

I say taser. Stun gun puts you in reach, which in a one on one confrontation is ALWAYS bad. Pepper spray can be influenced by the wind/weather, and end up getting you contaminated. With the civilian tasers, you simply tase them, and run away, a thirty second delay timer keeps the person tased long enough for you to effect your getaway. Run away and leave an $800 taser you are saying? Taser has a policy with it's tasers that if you use a civilian model and leave it, then they will replace it with a police report detailing the incident. And with a civilian taser, you have 18 feet between you and your attacker.
As for the deaths involved with the taser, there were complications that caused those deaths. A taser has never been the sole documented reason for a persons death. That remote possibility would be the farthest thing from my mind if someone were trying to harm or rob me.

Pepper Spray is probably a good choice... make sure you aim for the Hairline or their forehead. but people react differently aginst pepper spray...
im only saying no to Stunguns because there have been some cases where someone had died. but same thing with pepper spray. thats kinda why they are both concidered Less Lethal

i would take OC spray over a stun gun anytime. IMO stun guns are cheap junk and not that effective. OC spray has it's drawbacks too that have been covered all ready. If you are attacked and need to fight then do it all the way! Go right for the eyes! When an attacker loses sight this fight will end. You may now escape or continue to attack until you feel safe to escape. Personally I think after blinding an attacker I'd break an ankle to ensure my escape and disable him from pursuing me.
