The absolute best chocolate on the planet is from Teuscher Chocolates. It's all imported to San Francisco weekly from Zurich, Switzerland. There is no wax, preservatives, or icky animal products in anything they make. The only dairy products they use are cream, butter, and milk which comes from a dairy farm owned by and attached to the Teuscher Factory in Zurich. They make everything from white chocolate (with no vanilla and made with actual cocoa bean meat.. not like crap Hershey's) to 99% cocoa chocolate bars. They are famous for the Champagne Truffle and were even listed as Oprah's favorite chocolate! It's definitely a MUST try. DELICIOUS!!!

If you're looking to just eat a bar of tasty chocolate, it kinda depends upon what you like. If you like dark chocolate, go for something a little exotic. You can find bars that are 60+% cacao at various organic food stores and high end food shops. If you like different types of chocolate, you might try Ritters - they make very tasty bars of chocolate in all different flavors with different fillings (various kinds of nuts and fruits).

Mostly, U.S.-made chocolate uses cocoa powder instead of cocoa butter and many manufacturers use wax as a filler. Bleah.

Chocolate from France, Belgium, and Germany are all really good. Ritters is British, I think.

If you want the give someone a box of chocolates for Valentine's day, I'd recommend going to a high end food shop and having them put together a box of mixed chocolates for you instead of buying a pre-made box. The chocolates will be fresher and you can choose particular flavors that you know your intended recipient likes and leave off ones you know he or she hates.

Or you could buy a bunch of different candy bars from different manufacturers and arrange them in a basket yourself, on some pink & red tissue paper. Tie a pink or red ribbon on the handle for a nice effect.

HERSHEYS baby.

Walmart Great Value brand also makes a chocolate bar with hazelnuts in it, very good if you like nuts. Reminds me of a more solid form of Nutella. Check it out by the big hershey bars.
