Ambien CR is continued release which means it will give you a little of the medication when you take it and a little throughout the night to help you stay asleep. Regular Ambien is going to get you sleepy soon after you take it so you can fall asleep faster. Which is best for you depends on if you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. How effective depends. Everyone is different. Some patient's swear by it and others state it doesn't help them at all.

Ambien gets into your blood stream right away while ambien CR is continuous relief meaning it slowly releases small amounts of the ambien over the course of the night. Both are good sleeping meds. One gives you the full dose once it dissolves and gets into your blood stream while the other give you a little med slowly and steadily throughout the night.

If you, or whoever this information is for, has never tried Ambien before, I cannot stress to you enough that you need to start with the lowest dosage first to see how this medication will effect you.
