also could it have been the reason I started smoking? NOTE: I have since quit but would love to have some candy cigarettes again

Yeah, I remember them being pretty good but they were kind of a bad idea. They were in boxes that resembled brand names at the time, and they very well could have influenced me to smoke. Joe Camel had nothing on these things. I would get them when my mom would by the real thing...so I was trying to be just like mom, and I ended up that way, smoking up to 5 packs a day sometimes.

I am fully aware that smoking is a choice in the beginning, and that parents have more influence on their kids than anything like candy or a cartoon...but media targeted toward children to do negative things is a bad idea. I kind of feel the same way about toy guns (except squirt guns) and smartass cartoons.

I just quit smoking this week. So far so good. And if you are wondering why? My mom died Dec 15 from emphysema and heart disease. I took care of her for 10 years...she robbed herself of years, and some of my prime time got stolen too, in taking care of her. And I definitely do NOT want to go out the way she did.

They do taste good and altoids and buttermints don't really mimic the flavor of candy smokes. I'm not really on such a soapbox except for I am thinking a lot about smoking lately, and missing my mom. If I had kids they wouldn't be allowed to have them.

They Do Still Make Them But They Are Alot Harder To Find. One Reason Is Because Alot Of Parents Thought That This Would Increase The Chances Of Smoking In Kids. So Even Though The Candy Isn't Illegal, Alot Of Stores Don't Sell Them. We Actually Had A Protest Against A Store In My Old Neighborhood Because A Store Sold The Candy Cigarettes.

Man I Miss Those Things.

Oh I loved those! I use to think I was so smug with my "candy" cigarettes mainly cause my Nana smoked. I smoke to, I just like the flavor, and yeah they sell them still their hard to find, I've also wondered about those over sized lollipops ya know the big circles and its rainbow colored?

I saw some candy cigarettes at a Convenient store the other day actually. You can look in the candy section where they have the small candies and they might have them.

I remember them "Hawk" in the black package. They were so cool.

Yes, they do make them. No, I doubt that is the reason you started smoking.
They are Popeye brand and you can get them in most shops that specialize in candy.
