That's alot of weight to lose in such a short period of time, but yes walking is a very good exercise to help you loose weight. You also have to improve your diet and bad habits, if you have any.

Swining your arms while walking helps alot too and I also found out (although it sounds NUTS) a few months ago at the gym an older lady told me while walking if I sucked my stomach in while swinging my arms and pacing my walking it would help with my abs and amazingly it did, although it sounds kind of like a scam, it does exercise those muscles and does help a bit!

Just keep a good look on your diet and yes walking helps, don't start out all crazy if you can't handle it though because you may become fatigue and that won't help you in the long run because it may make you want to quit sooner, no matter how determined you are.

Good luck and I hope that you reach your goal in a healthy and responsible way! :)

Walking is one of the things to help you lose weight. I have bad knees and can't jog or anything like that. So I walk as much as possible, which not having a car is fairly easy. But I also watch my diet and lift light weights 3 times a week. You have to burn more calories than you take in in order to lose weight, remember. And don't get discouraged, it takes time to see results. Also remember that muscle weighs twice as much as fat. I couldn't understand why I wasn't losing as much weight, because I was exercising more. It was because I was adding muscle. Good luck.

Rani,
It is not just about walking or being on diet.
There is no point in going 5 miles every day, you need a more systematic approach.

I think you can follow this:

a. Walk for 5 kms a day - early in the morning - this will help you to reduce unnecessary fat, lower your sugar level in blood and completely refersh you for the day.

b. Eat foods that are good for health like more fruits, vegetables, juices etc; 10 apples are much better than 1 samosa.

c. Slowly reduce oily items - samosas, chat items etc;

d. Drink more water.

e. If you feel hungry you eat, but to a limit. Don't eat just for the sake of eating or since the food is tasty etc; eat only if you are hungry.

f. Do small exercises later in the day may be evening or so.

All the best!

Walking is movement, movement is exercise, exercise helps you to lose weights - short answer, yes walking helps you to lose weight. Now the science of it. Everything to do with maintaining , increasing or losing weight ultimately comes back to your metabolic rate. There's a lot involved with metabolism and the best thing to do is for you to find out for yourself about it. But basically, you have exercise like walking which will increase your basal metabolic rate which is the part of your metabolism which is working all the time and helps you to burn calories on your "down time" periods like sitting at your desk or sleeping. More intense physical activities which the body can only maintain for a limited period of time and at a certain heart rate like swimming, and running, are used to help build lean muscle mass and to help bump up your metabolism and the body's break down of fat cells. You need to do activities which involve both. This and obviously eating healthily and in appropriate proportions.

Yes it will. A brisk walk for one hour, 5 or 6 days a week. It will help you lose weight and be healthier. You must also control your diet. Try an Atkins or South Beach approach to eating. Less carbs and more protein.

I have NO credentials at all, but I can tell you from experience that any movement burns calories and assists you in your path to weight loss.

Walking is sort of a threshold exercise. It's not too intense, but it can make a difference! As you limber up gradually, you might want to incorporate some other workouts into your routine.

Somewhere I read that it's good to go as fast as you can, as long as you can, and no more. To me, that sounds reasonable.

Best of weight-loss luck!

Yes walking will help you loose weight but start out slow and then increase how far you walk and how fast you walk. To tone your waist and stomach you will need to do some abdominal exercises.

walking will help but if you want to really put off the fat that fast you better run and mind you increase the running time gradually or yopu may end up with muscle cramps. Wishing you that you will start it as you said

Using treadmill is another way to loose excess fat.
