lol there is no correct pronunciation of it. No matter where you go or who you ask you will hear a mix of all three but the most common is New Or-leens then New Or-lins then New Or-lans

Great question...and yeah,,it sort of depends on where you live.
but for locals...it is New ORLINS. Or "nawlins". If you don't live there, it would sound silly to use that Cajun pronunciation though. (nawlins). I'd stick with "New Orlins"
When Dan Rather used to say "New Or Leens", it always stuck out in my mind. I'm from the South, but not New Orleans. Just sounded really strange to me.

Pretty much anyone who's actually lived in the Crescent City says New OR-luns. The exception is in music, when "LEENS" is used because it makes a better rhyme.

you can always tell if someone has never lived in new orleans because they will pronounce it new or-leens.
like the others have said, locals say nawlans.
i prefer a pronunciation more like new or-lee-ans without much accent on the 'lee' part.
so say it how ever you want! how ever it feels most natural for you.

the city got its name from Philippe II, Duke of Orléans.
if you look up New Orleans in the webster online dictionary .. it has 3 different audios with the pronouciation ..lol
I think it is correctly pronounced OR-LINS... tho that is NOT how you pronouce Duke of Orléans

Everyone pronounces it differently. There's no real pronounciation. All three ways are fine.

You are all wrong. Here in Hammond we just say "the city".
"You going to the city this weekend?"
