The pain isn't that bad and you should experience some swelling, how much varies from person to person. I got mine pierced a long time ago and mine didn't swell up too bad, I was able to eat regular food with no problem, however, my brother got his done a couple of days before me and his got really swollen, bled a little when he got it done and the swelling didn't start to go down until the following week.

I got my tongue pierced when I was 18. When you do decide to go take some Advil 30 minutes before you get it done. For the first couple of days your tongue will swell and you will have a hard time talking. Make sure to eat soft food for the first couple of days. Carry a little bottle of Listerine since it kills bacteria and use it after eating or drinking. Avoid using salt and pepper because it can get caught in the hole and it's not comfortable. Within a few day the swelling should go away and you should talk like normal.

For me, it didn't hurt too bad while I was getting it pierced...but the 3-4 days following was when it began hurting. Your tongue will swell and they put a longer bar in to allow for swelling so that's awkward...the way you talk will be affected, for awhile anyway. You won't be able to eat solids for a few days, no beer/liquor (if you're old enough to drink it) and you'll have to make sure you buy a new toothbrush. Brush gently around the piercing after eating or drinking (anything besides water), rinse with non-alcohol rinse (Biotene was recommended, doesn't taste great...but worked fine). Around the 5th-6th day, it was fine...and once you're used to it, it's just there. I had mine pierced for a few years...but outgrew it...I can still feel the hole on the underside of my tongue. Good luck!

Of course a piercing can hurt!

A tongue piercing means that you will be having a 14 or 12 gauge needle shoved through your strongest muscle and have a foreign object made of titanium or implant grade steel placed in the hole.

It can cause you to temporarily or permanently lisp while speaking depending on your anatomical structure and swelling, some potential jobs will judge you based on it, you will not be able to smoke, drink alcohol, swap bodily fluids or eat spicy foods for a few weeks.

Thats about it. Avoid Listerine and other mouthwashes with alcohol. It can kill all the good oral bacteria and cause thrush...yuck.

depends on your body..if someone does it right its just qiuck and minimal in pain...depends on how you tollerate pain also..I didnt hardly swell at all cause i kept my mouth clean( mouthwash) after every meal.. ice as much as possible..and i take vitamins on the regular so im healthy..think about it...so many people have one its crazy..its really just like getting a shot. or ear piercing .done in an instant.. and dont get one close to the tip of your tongue..that causes problems from what i've seen.. good luck...after a few days a small amount of white-ish fluid will be seen on the bottom area but its normal..an part of the healing process..just keep it clean an youll be fine
