Rice and bread are both carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are the sources of our energy. Our body burn it by metabolism. The more we are active, the more of it is burned. There must be a balance of our cabohydrate intake and our level of activity so that we can maintain our body weight. When our carbohydrate intake is greater than we can burn it (when we do not exercise or do a lot of activity), it is deposited in the body in the form of fat. This way we gain weight.

Yes they can contribute to weight gain as they are carbs and most carbs turn directly in to glucose. If you eat brown rice and whole wheat bread it is not so bad.

only if your not a very active person. just go to www.wikipedia.org and look up carbs. they turn to fat only when you dont use the energy they provide.
