Because, chief, people have a biological, social, societal, and ingrained need. You never have to have a kid though.

Depends on the country. I can think of several reasons right off the bat.
In developing Catholic countries, people have large families partly because the Catholic church does not allow birth control.
In many countries, people have traditionally had large families, and they want large families. It does seem odd from an American point of view, but even though these people have little money, they still want large families. It is cultural.
It is true that less educated people have more children.
So there are a few reasons. I'm sure I could think of more. I would suggest that you take a look at the UN website, or the UNICEF website. Try to understand life from the point of view of people in different places. Refugees. People in the poorest countries. People in places of conflict. Try to understand them not from the point of an American but from their points of view.
And blah blah blah.

The social reason that poorer families have more children was (and perhaps still is) the fact of a high child mortality rate. More poor children die at ages below 5 than you imagine. So ... parents have more so that some may live to adulthood. I know it sounds quircky but there you have it.

Even poor people want to have a family. They also can't overcome the urge to have sex and they are too poor to use contraceptives. This is a big problem that can't be solved even in a century from now.

No birth control? Ignorance? My grandma had 12 children in the US and they were very poor. It happens here too.

Well it could be lack of education and it could be that there is not access to birth control like we have here in the US.
