I used to live in Cali and we grew them in the yard, however I have seen them at a nursery called 'Calloways' some time back. I thought it was unusual, as I had never seen them sold before.Ask your local nursery.

I used to grow them as ornamental vines. They had pretty beans also; about the size of Lima beans, but black with purple spots. I don't know anything about the ricin other than it's there. Contact Burpees or if you don't want to possibly get on someones list try some heritage seed farms. They are good ornamentals. They probably would look growing over some Afghan poppies (illegal).

Why? Castor beans are deadly. They have a poisonous protein called ricin. This is not fat soluble, which is why castor oil is safe.

Have you been reading Ann Rule's 'Bitter Harvest'? Castor beans are poisonous. You don't want to mess with that stuff.
