They could be acting nice. Or maybe polite. Or maybe they just want to get rid of you like talking down too you.Like you may talk to a sibling .Or like your parents talk to you when they don't really want too be bothered. Listen too the tone of their voice it will usually give them away.Watch for body language that will also help give you a hint.

I work with a lot of older males and they tend to call me sweetie or hon. I realized they are being nice and don't mean to offend me. It is just a figure of speech.

well it doesnt really mean that their into you...some people (male or female) jus calls everyone they know that. i have a lot of friends that call me sweety or hun. since your a girl your going to get called that often. its just a sweet way to call a female

Some people do it out of habit, I work in the public and find myself accidently saying it at times...

This person possible calls everybody those names. I do it myself... Not because i have a limited vocabulary... it is just the way i am. Very sweet, loving & caring person...

My BF's best friend did that for awhile, before BF and I started dating. He really meant it too, but he was almost creepy about it because he doesn't understand boundaries.
