The hallmark of a good diet plan will have 3 basic ingredients:
1) check with your doctor before starting
2) reduce your calorie intake
3) increase your exercise and physical activity

First off!!! I don't think there is such a thing as a good diet. I have been on one for a month and I hate it. If you are serious about loosing weight you should consult with your Doctor first. Each one of us is different and what may work for some may not work for you. Diets that get rid of weight fast are not good for long term loss. Most people tend too put the weight back on just as fast when they quit.

There are a lot of different opinions on this, lots of plans with lots of reasons why their method is the best. Even doctors disagree about proper nutrition and weight loss.

But no matter what, it has to:

Be affordable

Address your issues about food

Include exercise

Be positive experience, not just denying or depriving you

Be a real life achievable situation. You can't just sit at home and eat cabbage soup all day, you have stuff to do and you would run out of toilet paper, then what?

Shouldn't ask you to give up any entire food group.

Shouldn't be gimmicky or involve a lot of special gear.

Just remember for everything that keeps you UNFIT, there is someone who enjoys what YOU enjoy, is in a similar situation as you socially, financially, whatever but they are FIT. Find out how they do it.

You may simply hang around with fit people and really pick their brains about their choices. Do they enjoy exercise? What makes it pleasant for them, or how do they bring themselves to do it even though they hate it? Do they really want to have more than they are eating? How do they control themselves? How do they cook? How do they eat? How do they deal with their emotions and stress and their everyday situations?

Chances are a fit person may be able to teach you some things about getting fit, even if they aren't perfect as a whole-life example.

I am not really dieting but I have recently quit smoking and being overweight anyway, I don't want to expand any more than I have to. Of course the smoking is priority for me, if I pack on some pounds and stay away from smoking, it is fine by me. I can lose the weight easier than I can repair my lungs.

One thing I have decided to do is pretty easy and is working well for me is when I am hungry, I eat something healthy instead of junk food...I know, lots of leeway there and sometimes I don't make the healthiest choices but we all know what is crap and what is NOT crap for the most part. I allow myself junk but only if I am a little nibbly. Not to satisfy hunger...because hunger is my body crying out for nutrition, not empty calories, while the munchies are usually taste-related and texture-related. If I am not hungry, and still want junk, I find that I am eating a LOT less of it, which is the trick...eating a lot smaller portions of junk.

And I have been trying new things and NOT buying some of my old standbys that I can get in a rut with, even trying different items of NON-diet food...anything to break my habits...but also buying a lot of more healthy food. Even "bad" foods that are natural and wholesome, such as ice cream, instead of stuff with a bunch of empty calories...are better than artificial food.

Another tip: if you eat chips, crackers, cookies, etc, start with a recommended portion and put the container away. Never eat these things straight from the package, you lose track and before you know it, it could be gone....making a beeline for your a$$. If you want more, get more. A little more, and put the container away again. Even if you lose control of the amount, you did so in increments, with a chance in between to think about what you were doing. Lots of chances to decide if you REALLY wanted more. And if you are somewhat lazy, you can get it to work FOR you, maybe it is too much effort to get up for more. So much the better.

Best to ya...and by the way, do you love yourself the way you are? That's a big HUGE part of getting fit. You have to believe beyond any doubt that you are worthy of a healthy body.

No special food or science.
Just better choices, portion control and excercise!!

Eat tons and tons of fresh fruits and veggies, cut out fast food. Drink nothing but water, as much as you can, and walk 30 minutes a day, every day.
