I can understand your wanting to stop the Xanax!
However, be Very Careful.

I am sorry to hear of your loss.
Yes. You need to tell your doctor that you wish to stop taking them now and therefore, you need to be weened off the Xanax. Your doctor will then fill a prescription for the Xanax with directions on how to take them, like 1 tablet for 2 days, then a 1/2 tablet for two days, etc......
Don't worry. One (1mg) really is not much at all for such a short period of time as well.

You haven't been on long at all and 1 mg is really nothing.
Talk to your doctor about tapering. He or she will probably cut you a .25 or.50 every week or so to avoid the withdrawals.
If you go cold turkey, you're screwed. Headaches, flu like symptoms, head in a fishbowl feeling, ringing in the ars, every sense you have is heightened etc....TAPER.

You have to find joy in life and adjust, closure on the loss of your father (I'm sorry to hear that), and move on with your life and go back to doing the things you used to enjoy, LIVE your LIFE, that is what he wanted more than anything else for you to do. Children are the greatest treasure, the greatest work or accomplishment any person has or can hope to have in this world.

first of all, let me express my deepest sympathy to you in regards to your DAD....
go to the pharmacy and buy yourself a pill splitter.....and slowly but surely taper yourself down until you are taking nothing....if you do it slowly like this then you won't have drug withdrawls because you will be gradually tapering yourself off the xanax
