I would suggest a sage green. green is reputed to induce calmness, serenity, and creativity. it is the most easily assimilated color for the human eye to view. but avoid a bright or neon green. aqua and mint are too cool and energetic, and primary green is too unsettling. forest green would be too oppressing as the dominant color. a warm, subdued sage green with a hint of grey is a color you can live with for a long time. dont know if your male or female, but this color is slightly masculine but not overpoweringly so. good accent colors for sage green are:dark chocolate brown, brick red, cream, olive-brown, black, bronze, and copper.
some good samples of this color:
Ralph Lauren--"cameroon green" "brompton grey"
Behr-- "promenade" "laurel mist"
Sherwin Williams--"coastal plain"

Stay away from the bright colors...they more brighter a color, the more energetic its effect....which is opposite to the concentration/calm/focus you are seeking...go with a light shade of cream or beige with a tinge of your favorite color (my suggestion, yellow or peach) so that it doesn't look dull.
Also, keep the room as uncluttered as possible, especially around the source of sunlight in your bedroom. If your windows are such that the sun directly shines in, or if you feel there is too much sunshine in your room, then get some white or light colored cotton curtains....this will filter in the direct sunlight and create a warm comfortable atmosphere to work in....

I used to live in a beautiful heritage house and my study room had light yellow walls...really pale golden (with a hint of peach) with a dark brown wood trim around the windows. I managed to spend some very focused hours in that room. When the sun shone it certainly felt invigorating. Another nice thing about this colour is that it makes the solitary student feel loved and not alone...calm, collected, confident study. Have I sold you on this colour? I wish I had a picture...I have since moved.

A lighter blue or gray for the walls with the blue carpet might want to artwork properly. As for the black and white checkerd floor walls, some thing that would want to artwork with the colour you chosen for the reception area if the walls contact or would properly be considered at the same time as contained in the waiting area. you don't want to get too funky with great clashing shades. you would possibly want to apply a sea foam eco-friendly colour. That way you stay contained in the aqua kinfolk of shades.

Blue is calming. It can be strong and steadfast or light and friendly. Almost everyone likes some shade of the color blue. A natural color, from the blue of the sky, blue is a universal color. The cool, calming effect of blue makes time pass more quickly and it can help you sleep. Blue is a good color for bedrooms.

Well, you'll have to put a few coats of base so that the orange won't seep through.
I personally would go with a light shade of green, blue or yellow. they are calming colors and give a sense of peace of mind. I would stay away from dark or bold colors.

blue with sub lighting like the bar lighting in a bar like the kind that rims around the whole room./ never mind feng shui you can go nuts with that in fact no mirrors in the bedroom etc no pointed edeges facing the bed etc my god i would break down with the what ya can dos and not dos fro cryign out loud. paint it blue add a touch of purple like a quarter of a cup to the gallon.. then add lighting neon ones around your ceiling edges all around. if ya cant afford it use blue light for xmas trees( mini ones) all around the top edge of your room that joins to the ceiling..to relax .. tranquil add one tree plant too.. then put on a cd enigma or darude or depeche mode.

A shade of green would be calm but not sedating.
Something with some beige or grey in in could be handsome for a mans room - just dont get too dark, or it will be tiring.
Good Luck

If I were to coose the color, I would go for sky blue or mint green. Light colors tend to make people feel at ease. Dark color would make the room to have a gloomy atmosphere.

I would go with a light shade of blue. Blue is always a calming color. Stay away from reds because it is said that red can raise your blood pressure.
