I'm looking at a car that the dealership is asking 21,900 for, but the bluebook is 18,400. I already know they will at least drop it down to bluebook price, but how much cheaper should I try to get it? I was thinking around 17,000, but is it possible for less? Its a 2006 honda civic lx with 14,000 miles.

Ignore the blue book price. Check around on the internet. I checked out a car at a dealership, got the lowest price they would give me while I was still inside. I walked away saying I had to think about it. When I got home, I got on the internet, checked the dealerships website......the EXACT car that I test drove, was suddenly $5000 cheaper!!!!!!!! That was the "internet price". I called the dealership and complained. Salesman gave me a song and a dance, but the guy that does the financing called me back to apologize, offered me the car cheaper. I told him where he could put it. He agreed that it is not a good way to do business and seemed to understand that I would take my business elsewhere. Do yourself a favor, check online. If the place that you are buying the car doesn't have a website, then check out a competitors website. I am sure that you will find a price difference. GOOD LUCK!!

That's gonna be a little hard to do considering that car has sold very well (I have a 2006 civic ex sedan w/nav). What I suggest is going on to consumer reports and go by that price and look at a couple of other dealerships. Another thing, make sure you know exactly what you want in that car, a lot of dealerships will have the car with a number of additions they've added to jack up the price, basically, if you don't want the item in your car, you can have them remove it and that will lower the price, if they want your business, they will do it. You should also avoid additions such as the clear coating they'll offer to protect the paint, it's just a really good wax job and you'll pay an arm and a leg for it. Definitely shop around, that's what I did and I got the car for the MSRB price.
