come up with a new toy for an infant is a hard one. As the mother of a toddler, there are more toys out there than I could have ever imagined. My little one is 16 months and loves to be read to and loves to look at family albums. What about a story book that you can insert pictures into. Like a story that would have a line about mom baking and the page was illustrated except for a circle where you could slip in a picture of mom. Then on the next page a line about the baby and you put in a baby picture. Does that make sense. I can't help with what development skill that would work on though, good luck

Could you develop a set of paints for toddlers to use. I used to teach toddlers and the biggest issue was preventing the children from eating or licking the paints. I wonder if you came up with some that were edible- maybe with kool-aid and a frosting recipe that was thinned out. This could help with numerous skills. You could make a couple colors and put them into jars.

You can make a book that has sensory pages (things that they can touch with different textures). Most infant toys for development have mirrors, different fabrics. Primary colors (and black & white) have been shown to stimulate babies. Stacking toys are good too. You could do blocks with different textures on each side, pictures of animals, objects and shapes (dog, cat, ball, apple, red squares, blue triangles...).

What about a very colorful mobil? Can you do something like that with basic shapes and primary colors?
