Every time I have a drink, I have to have chips and salsa or pizza or a burger. Is there are biological/chemical explaination for these cravings? (I assume they're relatively universal because everyone I know has similar cravings)

Regarding chips or pizza, it is actually the time of the evening 7 or 8 P.M when you are really somewhat hungry and alcohol in it's initial stages makes you more hungry. In later stages the alcohol itself will satisfy your hunger to an appreciable extent. So if somehow you don't get to eat in the early stage you won' urge for the food in later stage. This is the truth.

I think it's just because your inhibitions are low and when u get the muchies you'll allow urself to eat anything, the 1st thing that people think of is snax when consuming alcohol
