Ok, My mother who is 52 is having this problem with her left eye. I have noticed it is a little more bloodshot than her right one but I know for a fact that it is not pink eye or any relation to it. The problem she is having is that everytime she attempts to focus on something it starts to hurt. She says that it feels like a piece of sand is in the inner corner of her eye. Now, I know she is getting enough sleep and it doesnt happen when she attempts to look. So far it has happened when she has tried to read, look at a computer screen, or look at a tv. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? She says it also feels sore and hurts a little. Please help me!

Ok she has had it for almost a week now. I know its nothing thats in her eye. Unless its stuck or something which I doubt considering your eye is the second fast healing organ in your body.

She could have scratched the cornea, or have something (a little piece of glass or something) lodged in there. She should get to an eye doctor ASAP. You don't mess around with your eyes.

Go to the ophthalmologist not the optometrist the skill set is different.
There is the chance she has an infection or a problem with her blood vessels that could be fixed in their office.

As far as eyes go, it's very important that she see's an eye specialist as soon as possible. It could be a small ulcer but thats only a guess. You need to get her to see a professional as soon as possible, it's as simple as that!!!!

My only suggestion is that it doesn't pass soon, she needs to see a doctor. But, you probably already know that. I know some people develop cataracts in their 50's. It could be serious! Good luck.

It could be that something is in her eye or it could be an allergy. She should see an eye doctor as soon as possible.
