My puppy keeps like making this weird noise like a hiccup but I don't know if that is what it is. She is running and playing and acting normal but I'm kind of worried.

It is completely normal for a puppy to have hiccups off and on throughout the day.

Hiccups sometimes start after eating a meal, but can occur at any time and last for up to several minutes.

A hiccup is defined as a non-controllable spasmodic contraction of the diaphragm, causing a beginning inspiration of air that is suddenly stopped by closure of the glottis. The diaphragm is a muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen. It enables the lungs to bring in air during inspiration. When the diaphragm contracts, the air is quickly drawn in, but the glottis, a part of the "voice box," suddenly cuts it off.

Puppy hiccups will come and go. Eventually puppies grow out of them.

Our chihuahua used to get them frequently, like three or four times a day, as a puppy. He'll be two years old next month, and he doesn't even get them once a month any more, so I can definitely state that a puppy can just grow out of getting the hiccups.

He did look kind of cute and amusing when he got them as a puppy, his whole little body would jump and he'd just cock his head and look at me as if to ask, "what's going on here?" But the hiccups never hurt him, and he got used to them after a while. The frequency of occurrence just slowly decreased as he got older. When he gets them now, I'm the one who jumps; I'm not used to it any more.

Puppies regularly get hiccups. Some people say it's because they have worms, it's not true, but people are likely to try and tell you that. They most definately get hiccups!

Yeah, I've heard dogs get hiccups. The tough part is getting them to hold their breath while they take a drink of water.

Yup, dogs get hiccups. Especially the more excitable ones. It's no more dangerous to a dog than it is to a human.

I'd say yes. My 8 week old, Toy Yorkie is hiccupping as I type! Although kind of funny to watch, they shake his whole body! Seems to happen when he gobbles his food too fast.
