The ASVAB score is based on the percentile of his performance based on other test takers. 88 would mean he scored at the 88th Percentile or higher than 88 % of the other test takers. This will probably help him in the military.

To give him the greatest amount of options, his scores should be in the 90+ range. some job skils (ie. intel, engineering) are in the higher score range for consideration for those jobs. He's well above the minimums though.
Keep in mind, that unless he gets something in 'writing' promising him training in a set field, the military is the military will fill MOS based on needs for that position first! Hope that helps.

the National Average is 42. He did very well.
As far as helping him in the military, it will open up a lot of jobs as long as he doesn't have law violations that would disqualify him, any medical problems, and has/will graduate high school.

88 puts him in the range to do any enlisted job. What is his GT score? Over 120 puts him in Officer candidate range

Congratulate him for me.
The test is broken into different sections, so a few highly-selective field may be closed to him if he did not do particularly well on one section.
On the whole, though, he should be able to get into most any field.

Everyone gets a high score on the ASVAB. That way they can get more people signed up for the military. I purposely tried to fail some sections and still got over 100.
