On a tourist visa, you may not undertake employment. However, you may use the trip to meet prospective employers and schedule interviews. You cannot actually begin work until you have the work visa, which would be sponsored by your employer. Some people do teach under a tourist visa, but if you get caught, the consequences could be serious (kicked out the country, arrested, fined, etc.). Between the tourist visa and work visa, you will probably have to leave Korea and re-enter.

DO NOT even consider taking employment until after you have been provided a contract and employment letter before you leave....if you come on a tourist Visa....you will have to leave then re-apply....i suggest extreme caution if anyone suggest you come as a tourist then change...the embassy cannot assist you if you get ripped off.....check websites...very informative about teaching here.....govt is cracking down very hard

It might have been possible in the past but immigration has been really cracking down the past few years. I wouldn't do it on a tourist visa.

Don't get discouraged by the many negative posts. Most of the people who post negatively are having a tough time adjusting to Korean culture.
