I plan on taking my dog to the vet on the first when i get paid, but I was curious what to do until then. he itches his sides often, (sides of tummy area, and underneath), and caughs to where he sometimes wants to throw up, beyond normal hairballs, since I've gotten him. (still new to me). anyway, he also had worm issues, and I've been using a liquid dewormer. any ideas? it would be much apprecaited to find the possible cause, and solution!

more details: he has never really had a issue with fleas, ( a friend that knows about poms even looked him over for me), and I've used advantage, or hartz flea drops, and bathe him before i use the drops, using the hartz shampoo. I also bombed the apt before recieving him., and I got him from a breeder., I think it might be kennel caugh, because I was told after the lady had 20 or so other poms there, she was looking to sell, because she was in a smaller home and needed $ for her electric bill.

I realize that you have financial issues, but coughing in dogs can be very, very serious. The itching needs to be addressed as well, but coughing could indicate a serious condition. Maybe you could explain your situation to your vet and perhaps they will take payments, but I hate to say this, but he needs seen ASAP. Even if you have to borrow money from a friend or relative, please get the little guy to the vet. There is nothing that you can do at home for this.

I had a Pom once that was older and coughing is sometimes a sign of heart disease, which she had.

My new Pom sometimes itches like that and nothing worked so I tried Coloidal Silver, the best you can buy, the cloudy stuff not the clear. One cc a day for two days and he stopped scratching. Now every couple months when he starts again, I repeat and scratching disappears. Just an idea

First tho, I would try regular Benadryl, give 1/2 table for a small dog. If it is allergy causing the itching the Benadryl might help. Benadryl is over the counter at the drug store and is actually made for people and my vet recommended this.

If these don't work, please see the vet.....

Coughing could be a sympyom of many serious conditions, such as heartworm, lung problem, heart problem, etc. You really can`t deworm a dog until u know what kind of worms he has so he can be treated with the proper medication. The vet will need a stool sample to diagnose this. Do not linger in getting ur dog to a vet ASAP. His scratching could be caused by fleas, which also need to be properly treated. Pomeranians r soo cute, don`t let his symptoms go untreated. Get him to a vet. If it were my dog, I`d try to borrow the money from a friend or relative until payday. Better safe than sorry for waiting. Good luck to u and ur pet.

get your pup to a Vet as soon as possible because most over the counter treatments for worms aren't effective enough to kill what your pup has and your pup may have more than that.
As far as the itching goes, very likely fleas. For that talk to a Vet about what flea product they would recommend for the health, size and age of your pup.
Your Vet will need to look at the hot spots to determine if something else is going on, like mites or fungal infection.
The cough would need a Vet exam too. Could be just from the hair which he may be ingesting when biting at fleas or whatever is bothering his skin.
You really need to take this puppy to a Vet. Call your local SPCA and ask for low cost Vet clinics they might be able to recommend or a clinic where a Vet will take payments.

Where did you get the dog from. If he was at a shelter or around other dogs it is possible that it could be kennel cough. As far as the itching it could be allergies of some sort. You might want to call the vet to see what dose of benadryl you might be able to give him until you visit them to give him some relief

First of all you may be feeding the wrong dog food which causes allergies. Also Hartz products are very harmful and have been known to kill dogs. Dogs need a natural dog food. Costco if you have one has a low cost all natural dry and can dog food. Get advatage flea. Is the dog on heartgard?

You should know what kind of worms the dog has before you just give worm medicine. Coughing could be related to the worms. Might have allergies to food or something in his environment. A vet visit is in order.
