I've had my Mirena for about 10 months now, and so far haven't had any problems. I got it when my son was a month and a half old, and so far I haven't even had any periods, since I was nursing when it was put it and they hadn't started back yet.
I do have occasional sharp cramps, but I can't for sure attribute that to the Mirena, as that's something that happened to me every month before and during my period. So that could just be maybe ovulation, or something like that.
As for advice, I would get it. It's the most hassle-free method. It lasts for five years or until you take it out, and when it's removed, your fertility will come back within one cycle.
It's also the most effective method, being like 99.9% effective. I got pregnant on the pill, my sister-in-law got pregnant when the Nuva Ring slipped out of place, and I don't wanna get the shot either. Also, I don't think I'd trust the patch or just condoms.
Just make sure that someone goes with you when you have it inserted, as the insertion can cause cramps or make you very dizzy and thus unable to drive yourself home safely. I didn't have either of those problems, though, but my doctor told me they're fairly common.
And make sure that they cut the strings short enough. When mine was inserted, they left them too long and they had to cut more off a week later at the appointment to check it's position.
Good luck!

I love this method of BC. I have Paragard IUD. It stays in for 10 yrs. I was the type that would always forget to take the pill. I tried the depo and didn't like it. I have been on the IUD for about 2 yrs now and love it. I haven't had any problems with it so far. I have notice that my cycle is a bit worse(heavier bleeding and mild cramping) since I had it put in. But not to the point where I am miserable. I just think that is better to have a heavier cycle than another baby. :P
Good luck to you.

I've had it for almost 4 years now and I love it. I got it because it's a hassle free birth control. I could never remember to take the pill and I didn't want to do the depo shot because of the risk of weight gain. Another thing I love about the IUD is that it will make your menstrual cycle shorter and in my case and many others it will completely stop.

I really wanted to get one. In fact I had one for one day but it perferated my uterus and had to be removed surgically. It is a known complication but it hardly ever happens. (just unlucky I guess) I would reccomend that you check for your strings and if you have any questions go back to your doctor and get checked. If I had waited I could have had all sorts of complications. Now I am taking the stupid mini pill (nursing too) and still wish the IUD would have worked out.
Other advise ... take an advil before your appt. It didn't hurt much or cause much cramping but I think that I am not as sensitive as some people.

I had the Mirena for over a 300 and sixty 5 days. It led to me all varieties of astonishing bleeding and soreness throughout intercourse. you are able to attempt it for a month or 2 just to work out the way you like it. in case you do no longer like it, the docs can get rid of it.

I had one and loved it. I had a couple of bad periods the first couple of times and some bad cramps after I had it inserted, but nothing I couldn't handle. I think by month 3, no more problems. Looking back, it was great! No pills, spontaneity, it was great.
