All ducks need is some water and food, table scraps are good, some grain ect. My naighbors had ducks, they just let them roam the yard and turned the sprinklers on once in a while (a pond would be better). Ducks are kinda fun, not like those smart *** turkeys!

Ducks aren't for the lazy! I have -1- Peking and she keeps me busy with changing her drinking/swimming water, and cleaning up after her 'baths' because she is a duck and they love water and she is very frisky with her self when she's bathing!
She is being fed a waterfowl pelleted diet as well as 1 dozen worms and a salad mixture of field greens and cracked corn sprinkled with egg shell calcium.
Her bedding consists of pine needles (anti-bacterial properties) to keep her warm and comfortable.
Her cage is a 4x4x2 and has a bottom grate because she is a duck and they LOVE to rummage through any kind of substrate that they have at their disposal! and this grate prevents her from rummaging through the soiled bedding and consuming all the bacteria, thus causing a vet visit because of intestinal bacteria that could be potentially fatal!
WHEW!
To say the least...she's a SWEET and ADORABLE little girl, but she is more work than 8 cockatoos! I would recommend a little bit of thought before you bring home a duck.
I personally think she's worth it.

If you are not too good at cleaning up then I don't recommend ducks as they are quite messy. Wet messy! Eat in their water and poo in their water, plus get their water ALL OVER their bedding and vise versa to where we had to change the water 4 times a day. I raised several from ducklings and I had a hard time keeping them clean, dry and not smelly. Had 3 ducklings compared to 40 chicken chicks and the ducklings stunk the worst. Once they are completely outside it gets a little bit better - when they are confined they are messy. I absolutely loved my ducks, but you have to weigh the work to the enjoyment of it all.

Ducks are adorable, but they are very messy. So if you don't have time to clean up after them, it's better off not to get them in the first place.
You can still enjoy ducks at a local pond or state park. I buy several loaves of bread and spend an afternoon feeding them. That's fun and I don't have to clean up after them.

We have 7 ducks and we keep them in a fenced area (lagoon-in Kansas) They are no problem as they basically stay in the lagoon area. Sometimes they do wander up to the house and make a mess on our patio. But this is usually if we haven't fed them. If you do get them I would recommend you have a fenced area for them to stay in.I like them because they can be left without any care. Of course they do have the lagoon area to catch bugs and eat algae. Baby ducks do take alot of care until they are fully feathered when you can put them in an area for swimming. So basically they are easy when they are adults but harder as young ducklings

From what I understand ducks are messy, poop a lot and don't have a sphincter muscle so that potty training cannot be accomplished. Some can spread salmonella according to the Centers of Disease Control. They can make good pets but find out as much as you can. Some have bad temperaments as adults. Don't settle for alternate feed. Do get feed specific to ducks.Have a ducky year.

ducks make excellent pets but you should learn all you can before getting one (or more). they are a lot of work (ducks poop about 3 times per hour) and must be protected from predators sine they have almost no natural defenses. join the yahoo group petducksrus to learn more from other duck folks. they are NOT for lazy people.

We had ducks while I was growing up. You need to get male and female-they mate for life. Once you get them they need a pond, we used a kiddie pool. You need to live in fairly warm climate. If you don't pick up the eggs obviously you will end up with cute little ducklings that probably won't survive. Good luck with this.

If you don't have the time to spend or the inclination to pick up after your pets, you shouldn't get them; no matter what species with the exception of an Ant Farm.
