I'm a hungry college student, and my pockets are empty. I have a microwave and a fridge, but no stove. What are your best and favorite college meals to make?

I'd buy a small one burner gas stove, like you can get at the camping store or on Craigs List so that you can actually cook a little bit. Eat lots of fruits, veggies and cereals. Salads are easy, as are sandwiches. They don't have to be boring- you can make them good. And if you get the little burner, there are all sorts of cheap easy things to make. When I was in the dorm, I made lots of variations on quesadillas, tacos and spaghetti.

first, look back thru the postings for a post titled Microwave Cake...?

Also, take some potatoes, wash, peel and cube them in to about 1/2 cubes.

chop an onion.

In a large glass microwaveable bowl. combine the above with enough milk to cover

(you can add ham chunks to make it a one dish meal)

Microwave until potatoes are done (usually about 10 minutes) watching carefully so the milk doesn't over flow.

When the taters are done, they will have gotten thick... add salt and pepper to taste and you can add grated cheese to the top if you want.

Its yummy and simple.

I have varied mine to include chopped bell pepper, jalapeno's and other veggies I thought would taste good.

Potatoes and onions and milk will go a long way!!!

You can boil water in the microwave right? Of course you can. You can make pasta in the microwave as well as heat tomato sauce. Boil pasta in salted water in the microwave, drain and set aside. Heat sauce with slit film covered top in microwave. Pour heated sauce over pasta and sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Enjoy! Hope that gives you an idea.

I found it hard when I was in university. Some of these wedsites helped me. I found that if i made a big meal family sized it was cheaper by portion and it cut down on my cooking. Plus if you have room mates its great cause they can help with the cost and share the food.

You can buy pre-cooked rice in the supermarket (in the aisle where the rice / pasta are). You put it in the microwave. Add a can of tuna and some grated cheese and a bit of your favourite sauce - it's ok and cheap!

I kept Ramen noodles on hand for a quick snack when I was living in a dorm.
Also, peanut butter and crackers is something that my brother survived off of when he was in college.

My best college meals were having grad students take me out to dinner at fancy restaurants.

Completely free...and I do mean completely!
