heya, let's assume that you aren't super rich - so you want a decent place, decent food at not too much expense, right?
If so, I would suggest you budget at least $80-100 a night for accommodation in a B&B or a hotel. Look at Trip Advisor (http://www.tripadvisor.com ) for reviews and rates.
There are lots of eating options, from $2 coffee and bagel in the morning to a $50 noodle dish at Nobu. You will be spending at least $10-20 a day on food. I usually spend a bit more!
Travel around NYC is pretty good if you take the subway or walk even. Expect to spend maybe $5-10 if you stick to feet and subways and buses.
Of course, there is SOOOO much to spend your money on in NYC. If you took the budgets above and increased them by 1000%, you would still be able to spend more. Thankfully, it's a city that works at many levels - so there are options at all prices, except for hotels which are generally quite pricey. But shop around, there are deals.

I live in NY, and I go through soooo much money. I would bring like hmmm 5G if you can. Better safe than sorry. But charge because its SO much better on the exchange rate. Don't take to much in cash, take it out of an account when you're there. Oh my gosh there is SO much you can do Im so jealous I lloooove vacationing. Also, try to go to a Broadway Pplay, I would recommend Wicked, Phantom of the Opera or The Lion King, oh hell they're all amazing. Have Tea at the Plaza, hit ever store on Madison, and tyr to get reservations at Daniel. Its pricey but worth it. Daniel is on hmmm Park and 7th I think, or something close to that. Ahh you're going ot have such an amazing time! Anyway, need anymore help let me know.

Transportation is an expense by itself. The food can be reasonable or expensive depending on your taste. But for all of the sites and events and I know your money is equal to ours. I do not know the standard but in your case I'd say about a thousand a week. New York is very expensive. Unless you plan on going to the rougher parts. Trust me they will hook you up over there.

It depends, if you are staying with family you will need about $1,500-$2,000. You can buy a Metrocard at vending machines in subway stations. Buy a monthly pass for $57 and that will give you unlimited access to trains and buses.
Food is about $20-$40 a day if on budget. If going for $20 a day, then you will need $520.
Clubs and bars on weekends will be about $100-$200 for admissions, drinks, etc...
Try not to take many cabs as they are pricey.
