Becca, join the crowd. I too get nervous about everything. However, I have found that it helps to try to always keep a level head and look at all situations as rationally as possible. Also, it helps to always remember that most things never turn out as badly as we initially think they might. I see a therapist for anxiety and have recently began refinding my Christian roots. Having faith truly does help you worry less. In fact, I am reading a very good book at this moment called, "In Pursuit of Peace", by Joyce Meyer. The information in this book is really good and has helped ease my nerves.
As to why you and I get so nervous could be and most likely is the result of many different variables. I personally believe my upbringing played a major role in my nervousness. My family was very dysfunctional. My dad was a mean uncaring controlling dominating unhappy man. His behavior created an environment of tension and anxiety. Nobody ever new when or what might happen next as far as he was concerned. It was like living in a mini cold war. Throughout my adult life, I am 36 now, I have had symptoms at various times of someone suffering from post traumatic stress. Maybe your upbringing was similar in that it was not riddled with anxiety and uncertainty too.
Additionally, I believe that genetics play a role. My grandmother had what they called a nerve disorder and took codeine cough suppressant to calm her nerves. I feel as if some of these genes were passed on to me as well.
And of course, we cannot overlook the stress and anxiety created by the world we live in today. Terrorism, deadlines, and the disconnectedness of American life, all can make for very nervous people. Let's face it, the world today can be very daunting and uncertain. We live in an age of fear.
I do not know you or your situation, but I think you should seek professional counsel and consciously work everday to grow in some faith, whether this be Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hindu, Buddhism, or any other spiritual belief. Having a strong faith in something outside yourself that can help you connect with the rest of the world in a positive calming way really does help. Though it is not easy to overcome being nervous and edgy, it can and does get better as time goes by if you work at it. Good luck my friend. I empathize entirely and wish you much peace. I hope this helps.

I feel the same way. Sometimes drugs are the way to go if you constantly have nerves that will never end. I know the feeling.
NO not illegal drugs, but Xanax does work and your doctor can prescribe it if he feels you are a good candidate for it.
But why are you getting nervous? Sometimes it's not you, it is just your body and sometimes you cannot control how your body feels.

Sounds like General Anxiety Disorder (GAD). There is treatment if your anxiety is too much for you to handle.

Think. Some thing is upsetting you. Be slow, careful and truthful. Good luck.
