I didn't until about a year ago.

I'm 17 now, then 16 and my parents were going to Vegas (we live in WA) for their aniversery, and figured that I was old enough to stay home for a week, being that I have several firearms locked in a safe in my closet. When they left I loaded 10 .223 rounds into my AR-15 (but not chambered) and put it back into the safe, in case I needed to have to use it quickly, it would be loaded and ready to go. A few days later at 11:32PM (I'll never forget) I heard glass shatter and immediately opened my safe, grabbed my AR, chambered a round and aimed at my door. Right as the door opened I yelled as loud as I could, "Don't F@cking Move!" The guy saw my assault rifle and froze. He dropped his pistol and got on his knees where I held him at gun point for what must have been no more than 2 minutes until the police came, although it seemed like hours. The guy was convicted for Breaking and Entering among a whole host of firearm charges, and won't be going anywhere for quite a while. Now I always keep my AR-15 loaded (still not chambered) in my safe and keep my PPK holstered around my bedpost at night. I know a .380 isn't the most powerful round out there, but 7 chunks of lead in your chest isn't going feel good no matter how big you are.

If I had lived in Britain, Austrailia or even the Socialist Republic of Kalifornia I would likely be dead right now. I am grateful everyday that my country guarantees me the right to protect myself, I wish Democrats and other "civilized" nations could understand this.

I sleep with three pistols and a revolver by my bed. A Glock Model 20 .10mm w/Trijicon Night Sights. A stainless steel Ruger Security Six 2 n 3/4" barrel .357 Magnum revolver. A s/steel Beretta Model 3032 .32 acp loaded with Winchester Silvertips. And a Walthers P22 loaded with Mini Mags and fitted laser sight. I'm not paranoid. I just like... guns. LOL!

I keep a 1911 in a easy access safe. (I can access it quickly even without any light and I have two small children so a lock is needed, esp. since my daughter is very curious and likes to snoop around. She does recieve training and knows only to touch a gun if I giver her permisssion). I also keep a 12 ga. loaded in a safe under the bed. The shotgun is for staying in place and the 1911 is for me to move about the house to get the kids into my bedroom, which is our designated safe room, until the police arrive. As far as the earlier comment about americans being gun crazy, all I can say is that when it comes to the safety of my kids, I am going to use the best tools I have available to protect my children. This includes locks, alarms, motion lights, cell phone in the bedroom to dial 911 if someone cuts our outside phone lines, and regular training with my guns. Their are three types of people in this world: Wolves, sheep and sheep dogs. I am a sheep dog and it is my job to protect my flock.

I used to have a SW model 15 38SPL police trade-in when I lived alone in an efficiency. It was within reach. I think I had Fed Hydroshocks in the cylinder. Been over 10 years ago. Now I have a redheaded wife that will kick yuor butt if you wake her up before she has slept 10 hours, so look out. She has arms like a sailor (freckles too!).

yes I do and have for over 20 years. It is common than not now
adays that home invasions happen at night or early in the morning. It is not there primarily to protect myself but my wife
and grandchildren. I put it away during the day and unload it. We
even have a plan that if some breaks in all persons are get down on the floor.

I live in the country. Help is far away. I keep a loaded Para P-13 close by. I also have an AR15 three steps away in the closet. It is not loaded but a loaded magazine is close next to it. I've never had to shoot anything more threatening than a rabid skunk but we have had several incidents in the last several years that keeps me on my toes.

I have a pistol and a 12 gauge in my closet, which is only a step away from my bed. The door is always open. Does that count?
