Which hiking trail has the best view near Los Angeles California?

You might want to head to Altadena and hike to Echo Mountain.
I went a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed views of the ocean and the city. It's about 2 1/2 miles from the trail head to Echo Mountain, and has some local historical significance. There used to be a resort hotel there in the early 1900s. The foundation is still there, which is kind of eerie.
To get there, take the 210 fwy to Pasadena. Exit Lake Ave and head north toward the mountains. Continue north on Lake Ave to the end, to the intersection of Loma Alta and Lake. The trail head begins at the large stone gate. Walk around the south side of the gate and continue walking for less than a quarter mile and you will come to a trail marker/register.

BTW- its best to hike this trail in cooler weather.

If you go to the Griffith Park Observatory, you will find a trail leading out of the parking lot that has a great view of the entire Los Angeles area. I don't live in LA but have visited. Locals may have some more ideas.

I live here and agree with the first answerer: the trails in Griffith park are fantastic. Unfortunately you can't get into the Observatory right now unless you have reservations. It recently reopened and is hugely popular.
Another great trail is Runyon Canyon if you have dogs, as it is an off leash trail. It starts either on Mulholland (top) or at the end of Fuller Ave (bottom). Keep your eyes open for celebrities on this one!
