I want to know how to become...I guess you could say a more practical person. I have a horrible habit of losing things, and it makes me really mad! And I always leave the house only to remember that I've forgotten something.
I feel like I'm constantly taking extra precaution because I know I have this problem, but it also makes me spend more time doing things that other people can do in less time.
Oddly enough, I have good memory and organization skills...until I'm loaded with stuff that is. Just today I was carrying lots of things, and because I was so worried about leaving anything behind, I ended up losing some cash I had just earned...
The same is true with tasks. I do a super good job on most things...until I have tons of things to do, then nothing gets done! I can only focus on one thing at a time.
I think that, in certain situations, this can be very serious. I am really mad at myself right now for losing the money. I know I need to change, but how? Please help!

yes the problem can be serious at times and can really get on your nerves. I seem to have the same problem quite often. I think one of the best ways around it, is to write things down whether it be on paper or a lil note on ur cell phone, anything that you check often enough, so you know you will see your reminders. As for being loaded with things to do, i know the feeling, i am currently juggling 2 math classes, everthing else in school, sports, a weekend job, and my personal life. The best thing to do for that i would say is to keep your priorities straight. Make a list of the most important things to the least and begin at # 1 n check them off as you go. As for forgeting things, before for you leave, go through and check off in your head everything you have. Like for me in the mornings(though it may sound odd) i dress myself in my head in my b-ball uniform. I mentally visualize everthing i put in my bag and make sure i have it for the game or pract. after school. Hope this helps. Please e-mail me if you find better ways to help this probelm i would be interested.

Lists are important but since you say that you have good organizational skills, you're probably looking above that.
If you seem to be having problems remembering specifics when you're overloaded, meditation helps. Scheduling your time to avoid a sudden cluster of events may be your solution. When you know you're having a busy day, make an effort to set time before the busy day to go over every tiny detail. Write everything down, (I know its crazy but I'm serious about EVERY detail.)
What has worked best for me is literally scheduling every minute of the day and reviewing it constantly.

I'm 46 and can't live without lists and sticky notes. I'm the type of person who has to plan EVERYTHING. I'm very detailed oriented. Maybe you're just this way too, so don't fret over it. Just accept it and be proud of your organization skills.
You've just MISPLACED the cash, right? Not actually lost it, I hope. It'll turn up. Just carefully retrace your steps over and over, and check every crevice and every crack where it could have fallen through.

My husband is the same way (absent minded professor).
He use to keep his info. in the computer, to remind him when we had dates.
As someone mentioned: slowing down, keeping a list, putting things in the same place all the time (like keys, on a hook by your front door), having spare glasses (keep one in the car).
Crossword puzzles helps with memory.
Our memory does get overloaded as we live our life & we get more busy. So take a deep breath, try yoga or meditation. :)

Thoughts are ''things''and they have a lot of power over our lives. If you think you are going to forget, you will. Change the way you think. Picture yourself (literally) remembering what you want to remember don't ''not forget''. It's tricky at first but you'll get the hang of it. It works wonders for me!! This applies to all areas of your life try it!

Consider wearing jeans or jackets with pockets. I'm guessing you are a woman, so that isn't always easy. But you'll notice that men rarely lose keys or wallets, and for a simple reason, they usually have them in their pocket.
