My boyfriend and I usually end up at places like Friday's or Applebees. We want something nice to do for Valentie's Day.

Here is a quick list of romantic restaurants, but you may already have trouble getting a reservation for Valentine's.

Tru - Very expensive, but one of the best restaurants in the world.

Ambria - classic French in a great location in Lincoln Park - expensive

Everest - Very expensive French, on the top floor of Loop building (Chicago Stock Exchange)

NoMi - in the Park Hyatt on Michigan Ave - great view of the Watertower.

Coco Pazzo - maybe the most upscale Italian around.

Geja's Cafe - fondue; very romantic, sometimes an older crowd.

Tizi Melloul - not as much of a dress-up place, but exotic and romantic Middle Eastern

Signature Room - on the 95th floor of the Hancock building, but the food is not as good and this is kind of a tourist cliche place.

Cite - best view. In Lake Point Tower (Navy Pier). I've heard the food is much improved which is good because it used to suck.

Il Mulino New York - another formal Italian place in an old Gold Coast Mansion - very romantic, fairly expensive.

There are plenty more, but look into a few of these and see if there is something you like.

If you want romantic and trendy, club kind of place look into Carnivale or Sushi SambaRio - these are not quiet romantic they are night on the town kind of places.

well i am a chef and i use to work for Tru. Its a great place great food, and now i just recently read they have a great mixologist that makes faboulous drinks, but its so expensive. A good time doesn't have to be so mush money and you should figure something asap a lot of places may not have any more reservations. If you like seafood try Roys there fish is great, and a nice atmosphere ($25-30) a person. Shaws has good crab cakes, theres a an Italian restaurant Francescas or Rosebud both a little pricey but great food. Tuscany is also italian, if i had to really pick one... hmm so many i would try Brasserie Joe, its a cute french restaurant not overpriced and great food and wine. THere dessert is fab... try the Profiteroles... they come and pour a pitcher of chocolate over two balls of icecream and little pastries... YUM and only 6.50 perfect for sharing... just avoid chain restaurants and try something new in your neighborhood. Local chefs are more likely to even have a special valentines menu.

If you like seafood, I'd recommend Shaw's Crabhouse. It's not too bright, the booths are comfy and private, and the service is stellar.
