those Christian cults that dance around with rattlesnakes and drink poison get the nutty idea to do so from this Bible verse.

Mar 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover

PS. do take note of the ignorance of scripture and of the more bizarre offshoots of their religion displayed by the responding Christians.

As I understand the beliefs of the snake handler Christians, the idea is that IF their faith is srtong enough then the snake should not bite them at all, or if it does, they will not be harmed by the bite. The smae goes for drinking poison. While I am not familiar with any the drink battery acid, there are some that drink Strychnine, which is a lethal poison. Again, the belief is that if they drink this poison it will not harm them IF their faith is strong enough. While I cannot attest to the validity of either of those claims, I have seen the drinking of the poison and seen the results of the substance drank proving that they did, in fact, drink strychnine, and lived. Some did not even react to it at all.

Not all Christians handle snakes. In fact, only a small percentage. In most states, it is now against the law. The handling of snakes comes from a passage in the new testament where through faith, people could take up serpents.
The way I feel about the snakes is, "Thou shalt not tempt the Lord Thy God" If playing with poisonous snakes isn't tempting your maker, I don't know what is. Also, I am trying to answer this question without offending you or pushing my religion on antone here. I have the outlook of, Believe what you want to believe, we will all know who is right or wrong in the end. I hope for everyone's sake, that everyone is right. Unfortunately, we all know that somebody must be wrong. My advice is, leave the snakes alone, there is more important things in life to worry about.

It might simply prove "A" faith, as in one faith!

There are so many different faiths out there, and who has the right to say which one is right?
Faith is about believing in something, belonging to something, trying to gain strength from it.
Personally, I do not get the rattlesnake dance bit either; however, for each his own.

How else can one sect try to prove that they, truly, are the least scientific minded and most stupid? Religions are most pure to the extent they avoid knowledge and enlightenment.

This has always been path chosen by religions. It was as obvious to Thomas Jefferson as it is to us today –

---The priests of the different religious sects ... dread the advance of science as witches do the approach of daylight, and scowl on the fatal harbinger announcing the subdivision of the duperies on which they live.
-- Thomas Jefferson, letter to Correa de Serra, April 11, 1820, quoted from James A Haught, ed., 2000 Years of Disbelief

What is the relevance of your question? Where have you heard of a christian trying to prove his/her faith by dancing with a rattlesnake?

It by no means proves your faith in my opinion, only devotion to God the following of God's plan for you truley proves our faith

Anyone who dances with a rattlesnake is a fool. ESPECIALLY if he thinks it will prove he believes in God.

Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Mar 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
How can you say you have faith in God if you don't do these things when the Bible says this?
It is another example of how you can pick and choose out of the Bible what you want to follow.

It is not dancing with with them it is handling them. Jesus said those who believed in him would be able to handle poisonous snakes and not be harmed. Many Pentecostals have lost fingers and actually died from handling rattlesnakes. Banana snakes are pretty bad too watch out. Hisszzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
