I recently attended a bridal show and saw lots of gowns with color, either with colorful sashes or embroidery. However, I'm looking for a wedding dress that's a different color from white or ivory altogether.
I love the idea of pale gold or a deep red, but I don't want it to look like a prom dress (most prom dresses are a bit too frou-frou for me).
I've found a few, but I need something around $700 (give or take $75) and available in plus size. Does anyone know if there's a company that sells something like this?
I'm trying to avoid going to every wedding boutique in town, so I'm shooting for seeing the dress online, going to the dress shop, and just ordering it.

EDIT: To answer one poster, white does not symbolize purity. In many, many cultures, red symbolizes purity. Also, the whole white wedding dress idea is a relatively recent trend in weddings, and it was created to show that you had money to burn.

I believe that red is a traditional color for Indian wedding dresses -If you want something exotic, you could try searching for sites that offer Indian wedding dresses or bridal wear.
Another option for ideas is Ebay - I've seen dressmakers offer all sorts of lovely things there, some custom.
Or, you could have your dress made for you - ask around to find a local dressmaker who can make one for you within your budget. If you don't get too elaborate, you should be able to get one made in the style, color, and size you need, with a customized fit.
Congratulations!

White symbolized wealth when it was introduced roughly only 2 centuries ago, not hundreds. Since only the wealthy (royalty) could afford a dress they would never wear again in their lives. Blue symbolized purity for many centuries prior. Otherwise women married in their best dress they already owned, which was usually a jewel toned color.
Is it possible to get the dress made by a local seamstress or a crafty relative/friend? Go to the fabric store, pick out a pattern (several come in plus sizes) and fabric that you like and go from there.
There are dress companies listed at http://midnightgarden.com/wedding/board since it is a medieval wedding community and no one wore white back then to marry in.

I would suggest looking at bridesmaid dresses. You will have quite a selection of styles and most of them will be available in red. Also, bridesmaids dresses are generally less expensive. How about Davids Bridal, I know they have plus sizes. If not try a department store's evening dress department for something elegant and not prom like. Also, I woul go with pale gold. If you are able to find a great deal, I would suggest getting two dresses, one that is a lighter color for the ceremony and then the red ress at the reception. Red at the ceremony might be a bit much. Anyway, happy planning.

I'd call the local stores to ascertain what colors they have in stock. Did you know that Sara Jessica Parker wore a black strapless wedding gown?! Red is a hot color right now, so I'd be very surprised if you couldn't find one. Congratulations and Good Luck on your dress. I hate frou frou, too. Ruffles aren't big anymore since few want to look like a walking wedding cake.
Her comes the bride, all dressed in red...Works for me!

Oh I love wedding dresses in the color red! I actually had one picked out, I was in love with it. I cant remember who made it though, it was on clearance at a local bridal botique. But it was still WAY out of my price range. They wanted $1100. for it. And that was with half off. So I found a red, white and blue one on ebay.
Im trying to think of wear I have seen all red dresses before. I know Lady Roi made mine, and I believe they make an all red one. Have you went to www.google.com and types in red wedding dress? I have thousands come up for me.
Dont let others put you down about the color of your dress. I think it will be beautiful! And I have recieved SO many compliments on my non tradional dress.
I will keep searching for red wedding dresses. If you want to share your email, I will be glad to send you what I find.
Congrats on your upcoming wedding.

Maggie Sottero has some really gorgeous red ones....also, ebay usually has some if you're willing to buy one online. You could get one custom-made after a certain designer, such as Maggie, and then go to a bridal shop and try on the Maggie dress. If you're doing this, I would reccomend the seller bridalmarket.

I know that your looking for a red gown, those are hard to find, but davidsbridal.com does have alot of great dresses that have red as the primary color. And they have them in plus sizes. Just a thought, so check them out, oh and they are pretty inexpensive too.

Last summer, I got a super cute bridesmaid dress in a nice red color called "apple" from David's Bridal. I don't know if you have one in your location, but it would be worth checking out. They had a wide variety of styles and fabrics. Good luck to you!

I am always looking for used Wedding Dresses and such on eBay and I have seen some red and other different colors that look very nice for a wedding. They are very reasonably priced too; most of them, since they are not that popular for wedding colors. Good Luck!!!!

You could find your ideal wedding dress and have it dyed. Or you could ask a seamstress friend or mom-like figure to help you make one..very cool idea. My sister in law got married in a purple dress... it was AWESOME! I felt like taking mine back and getting something cool instead of white:) have fun
Also if you are interested in Indian wedding items..please email me, I'm an importer and have a really good friend who specializes in India wedding apparel..I'm in CA
