First lines of Shakespeare's Sonnet 60
Like as the waves make towards the pebbled shore,
So do our minutes hasten to their end;
Each changing place with that which goes before,
In sequent toil all forwards do contend.
Nativity, once in the main of light,
Crawls to maturity, wherewith being crowned,
Crooked eclipses 'gainst his glory fight,
And Time that gave doth now his gift confound.
Time doth transfix the flourish set on youth
And delves the parallels in beauty's brow,
Feeds on the rarities of nature's truth,
And nothing stands but for his scythe to mow:
And yet to times in hope, my verse shall stand...
The quote means that aging and death are inevitable...as natural and as impossible to stop as the motion of the sea. In the last 2 lines, Shakespeare compares this to his poetry which he hopes will live on in time despite his death.

I think it means that just like the waves time is constantly moving and rolling on... I also think it has a lot to do with a pre-set amount of time that we have on earth. I think we are all giving an amount and there is nothing we can do to lengthen or shorten that time... I also think it helps to bring to perspective that you have to live life now because time is not going to wait until you are ready.

It means that The Cat is having Chicken for Dinner tonight, no doubt about it. The Cat will be steadfast in his pursuit of that darn bird and make that statement true. That's what it means! Darn bird, The Cat needs his beauty sleep! I'll show that cock!

You cant stop the advance of time any more than you can stop the motion of the sea.
