Why do people forget that the Big G is also compassionate? Why do you think we have the ability to produce endorphins, which are our body's internal pain regulators?
Look, I know that giving birth is not fun. I didn't use any pain meds--primarily because I couldn't. And, honestly, because my first child was premature, if I had the ability to take pain meds, she would have been in a lot more trouble than she was in, otherwise. She had a breathing condition. With meds, they might have had trouble reviving her and getting her to regulate.
Also, because I didn't use pain meds...I was able to bounce back a lot faster than people who normally take meds for birthing pain. Seriously.
And another thing, why is it that people seem to believe that guys don't have any compassion or worry for the spouse? Some guys pass out! (primarily due to low blood sugar from not eating...why do you think this is the case? They are so focused on their spouse and new baby that they completely forget about eating!!) It is a two way street. Give guys some credit...and realize that giving birth to a child is a true gift.
I'm glad, regardless of the short lived pain (hey, 10 hrs of labor is not a whole lot of time in the scheme of my entire lifetime!), that I was given the opportunity to help develop and birth in something sooo amazing; my kids.
Thank you Big G!

In the Bible, there are many symbols of nature that were set up as laws, and like most systems of law, such previous laws aren't ever revoked simply superceded. All throughout the Bible, the motif of God needing to reminder everyone of what He has ordained and the true nature of His being shows many such examples, thorn in the side, Psalms of David asking for guidance, etc. Childbearing pain then falls into the catergory of such a law of reminder of the difficulty of creation and thus implies also the divine respect for life itself and its inheritant meaning, which is something entirely different from sin.

Whoever told a little kid we are suffering for Eve's sin has a lot to answer for. I personally think that intelligent women can learn how to manage the pain of childbirth or you could even ask for medication. So your question is rather passe.

Three things to keep in mind....
1) Adam was punished right along with Eve, for God cursed the ground...
2) and remember that this story is about two creatures who are given the choice of free will. And if they were given free will in a paradise, a world free of pain and free of work, it would not really be free will in the sense of being able to make good or bad decisions.
3) And God promised them a redeemer, the offspring of woman, (Jesus) in the VERY SAME PASSAGE in which Adam and Eve were cursed. Vs, 15, he will crush the serpent's head.
Here's the passage... Genesis 3:14-19
14 So the LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this,
"Cursed are you above all the livestock
and all the wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel."
16 To the woman he said,
"I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing;
with pain you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you."
17 To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,'
"Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat of it
all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return."
So, your answer is Genesis 3.
Trying to throw God in the dock and holding him accountable to a moral code that could only originate from an omnipotent creator, a Tao so to speak, is really not that easy. When people try to question the morality of the God of which the Bible speaks, they should ask themselves, according to whose standards shall the God of the Bible be tried? To that of another God? Another universal morale force? The Tao? And if so, has that other God tried to connect with us?
Yet the Bible points to a universal omnipotent moral force trying to connect with us and yet we reject it and give the Bible very little thought. Funny that what you point to as two contradictory events, are thus tied together at the conception of Christian doctrine.. the fall of man & woman, and the promise of a redeemer.

well, you can see the Christian "reasoning". apparently not only are all women to pay for Eve's sins but ALL female mammalian animals as well. i don't know what these wackadoos think. other creatures don't feel pain when they give birth?
news for you, wackadoos! it hurts to give birth no matter what species you are. even a chicken makes distress noises when it's laying an egg.
there any many ridiculous aspects of Christian dogma but this particular guilt laden bull feces is especially cruel and moronic.

According to the Christian faith, Jesus died to save people from hell -- a punishment of the soul. Women were cursed with child labor pains and men were cursed with the duty to constantly work for survival. These curses were given more specifically for the fall of paradise, and not for sin in general. Furthermore, they are inflicted upon the physical flesh, which Jesus did not die to save.

Pains during childbirth are a result of Eve's sin, not a punishment for. Jesus dying for our sins did not cancel out the original sin committed in the Garden of Eden. His death made it possible for our sins to be wiped clean so that we may join him in heaven one day.

Yes the Bible says that in Genesis 3:16, and yes it also says Jesus died in our place.
Act 2:24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
Jesus trampled down death with death, He didn't get rid of the pain in childbirth, but He can be prayed to and asked, when i had my second child, i had no drugs for pain because my kids come out really fast, when the pain got so i couldn't handle it any longer i yelled out, 'Jesus, i can't take this anymore!!' .......and yup, out she came right the second after.

Jesus atoned for sin and by faith we say we are new creatures and we are not yet dead so it is by faith in the atonement and the resurrection. He who endures to the end is truly saved. Now we still live in this sinful world and are still subject to the things of this world...but understand the pain in childbirth can be symbolic of spiritual things and consider the pain Christ went through when brought forth children of faith through the atonement
