when you grew up, you found out totally different? Very funny because all my childhood, my foster mom used to tell me that cursing was not for children, & that it was for adults. She said that when I turned 18, I can curse. I'm 23 now, & she calls me childish & inappropriate for cursing, but she's been cursing at us for as long as I can remember-I was 4 & 5 years old & she was cursing me out. & in other places, people tell me that cursing is childish & inappropriate. I only curse when I'm mad, though. My question is, why isn't it inappropriate for others to curse? When my foster mom curses, why isn't it childish or inappropriate? My whole doggone childhood, I was taught wrong-that cursing is wrong for people of all ages, not just children. I just recently found out that cursing is considered a CRIME-disturbing the peace. That's messed up how you can go to jail for cursing when people do it all day, every day.

yeah, my mother kept telling me to wear socks with no holes and underwear with no holes because it would be so embarassing if I were hit by a car.
Well, I've been doing that and so far---I have not been hit by a car and I am in my 50's.
*knock on wood

I used to curse like a truck driver in my teen years behind my parents back. They never knew. I thought I was cool and mature because I cursed like the adults. Then one day I met this handsome guy and we started hanging out. About two days later he told me that I was a pretty girl but I had the mouth of a truck driver and had no interest in kissing a dirty mouthed girl.
I was totally humbled and from that day on never cursed again except when extremely upset. It is not in my everyday vocabulary to curse.

Cursing is inappropriate, and she knows it, which is why she taught you not to do it. Too bad that she hasn't completely learned that lesson herself. I'd say in this situation, don't try to see what she told you as a "lie" but that she was trying to teach you good manners in a way she could explain.

They were just projecting on you by telling you cursing was Evil...They were ashamed at the fact they did themselves, and therefore didn't want their babies to do it either.
People project all the time on others, especially parents!
(For example, the secretly gay politicians who preach hate toward gays.)
They can't control themselves, so they try to control the next easiest target!

Sure, cursing ALL THE TIME is tacky .....but everyone does it sometimes, or in a joking manner is Ok....It's hardly a sin. :-)
