Since when did they start thinking that ?

France, China, Russia, India,Isreal, Pakistan all have nuclear weapons.

I haven't hears anyone in either Britain of the US say those countries shouldn't have nuclear weapons.

Have you ?????

They have already found out that nuclear weapons are no guarantee
of safety and the spread of nuclear weapons brings closer the day they will be used again. There is a frightening logic to this and that is that many countries that have joined the nuclear club do not have civil defense programs. The idea that nuclear weapons could be gained by poor countries that could never afford a civil defense program is appalling.Nuclear weapons are no deterrent to would be aggressors.

Easy answer, they dont

The reason there is a treaty signed by a number of Nuclear powers against the proliferation of nuclear weapons is that many countries arent stable or reliable enough to possess the weapons.

It is like giving a loaded weapon to a seven year old. That child may know how to handle the weapon, but, is he mature enough not to show it to his friends who want to take it to school and shoot the teacher?

Iran is a nation that has stated that we are an enemy. They would not hesitate to give nuclear material to someone who would use it against the US.

The only thing that keeps countries like the US, Russia, China, Great Britian, from using these weapons is the threat of retaliation.
How do you retaliate against a terrorist?

It isnt the direct threat that that country will use these weapons but the idea that that country, through carelessness (intentional or not) will allow a terrorist to come to control them.

During the fall of the Soviet Union several nuclear missiles were in possession of outlaws who would have sued them if they had had the launch codes.

Nuclear fall out might be a good enough answer. The only problem is Russia, China, North Korea, India, Pakistan among others have Nukes. So I guess the USA and Britain are not the only two countries that own nukes. These countries simply do not want mad men to handle toys that may hurt them and others.

Well first off the US and Britain isn't the only nuclear capable country in this world, Russia, China, and most noted lately North Korea, amongst others who have nuclear capabilities. What would the US position be when trying to negotiate with hostile countries?....I would hate to see that day!

Because the nuclear energy is the power of future. When the amount of oil gets loer and lower, the nuclear technology would be the means of power of countries that have it. So the big powers do not want the other countries, like Iran N Korea etc to have it.

That would be ideal wouldn't it, only USA`and UK with nuclear weapons, then we'd have no one giving out S*** !! and we wouldn't be taking it either.
Still reality is lots of countries have them and for sure on day one of these extremist countries will use them, then we will all be in the S***.

They aren't the only ones, which is too bad because if any countries can be trusted with nuclear weapons it we be those two.

Who would you rather had a gun? Your father who wants to protect your family or a crazy guy running around the neighborhood saying he wants to kill you if he only had a gun?

They aren't the only ones and I don't see them actively protesting the ones that already have them, just the crazy dictatorships that are trying to get them.

Why not spend some time and research how many countries already have them first?
