Yes, there are many times in the bible where before battle the warriors had fasted and won the battle, that is found in the Old Testament. In the New Testament, even Jesus Himself fasted.
I have fasted, and it has drawn me closer, but it has to be for the right reasons, not to lose weight or something silly like that. When fasting you need to meditate on the word and let the Love of Jesus fill you, otherwise you will get hungry fast. Jesus said that man can not live by bread alone, but by the word of God. By the way don't go without water, and don't go over 30 days..I know Jesus went 40 days, but it is too dangerous for us.

yes my youth group and I fasted for 24 hours. We spent about an hour in prayer and I was like ohh my gosh there is no way i am going to be able to pray for an hour, but it went by so fast, and now i have more of a desire to read my Bible and become closer to God. Also, we spend 24 hours with each other, so our youth group also become closer!!

Yes, I have fasted.
Every time has been a time of drawing closer to God and a breakthrough in prayer and things happening.
Once in Nigeria we fasted for our visas to be extended and they were by the grace of God.
I haven't fasted recently but before I went on a mission trip to Ireland, I spent several days fasting my lunch and spending that time in prayer. It turned out to be an awesome trip.
Fasting doesn't actually have to be food. It can be anything that you give up and spend that time in prayer.

No it just makes you feel hungry. I have fasted and it is nonsense. Why would God want anyone to fast. Who ever thought that one up just didn't have the money to pay the grocery bill. If it brings people closer to God why don't they just keep fasting and never eat then they will get all the way there. It's idiotic. Hisszzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

by fasting you are gaining the pleasure of God. If God is pleased with you, of course He will elevate your status.
And Muslims are the ones famous for it, we fast for a month every year, and some other days during the year.
PS to someone up there..not 'close' in the physical sense.
PPS fasting in Islam is not completely starving yourself for days, all you do is not eat between sunrise and sunset.

Yes it does..
Ernest Angley(evangelist) has been on many 40 day fasts and God has used him very powerfully.
I know a few brothers that have been on 21 and 40 day fasts, though to my shame, I have never gone past 3 days.

Sure! Muslims fast all the time.
It does give your body a break from the routines of daily life. I believe it changes the chemical balance of your brain in such a way that it elevates your thinking process, and allows you focus on the more important things in life.

Fasting is the purest form of spiritual and physical cleansing. Putting the flesh under subjection...... so the spirit can be lifted and guided into understanding.

Oftentimes deprivation and sacrifice can help to remind oneself there are things much "bigger" than the ego. In this way you might feel more closely connected to all that is beyond the self, including the divine.

yeah i've gone 2 or 3 days. after 2 i would highly recommend some potassium, maybe other stuff.
from your point of view, it may make you feel a little closer to 'god'. it's good for your health if you know what you're doing.
