You mentioned your skin... and then you mentioned your feet. So I'm not sure if this problem is all over your body or just your feet.
But regardless... If this is an ongoing problem you could visit the pharmacist and get a special lotion. There are some good lotions for your feet that will kill fungus and what not... and help moisturize your skin as well.
One way to keep your feet from "drying up", is to let them air out ? Heavy socks and poor air circulation in your shoes can cause the skin on your feet to crack. As can any number of health conditions. I'm not a medical pro so I won't go there...
But keep your feet well ventilated and use the lotion your pharmD recommends. OH ! And stop using vaseline. Vaseline is greasy and can actually dry your skin and make it worse.

It sounds like you may have multiple problems. The extremely dry feet sound a little eczema. But for extremely dry skin all over the body, the last thing you should be doing is taking long hot showers (as this makes it worse). Best advice? Make a doctors appointment with a dermatologist. Until then, go to webmd.com and type in extremely dry skin. There are lots of home remedies recommended there.

you might have psoriasis is it on your hands to?..PSORIASIS:
Take 2 Tbsp. Flaxseed Oil daily, and rub some of the oil on the affected areas as well.
Eat two servings of salmon daily. Eat lots of fiber and less beef and eggs. Beef and eggs will aggravate psoriasis.
Take 120 mg. Milk Thistle three times a day to reduce psoriasis outbreaks.
Take 4 Tbsp. extra virgin coconut oil daily. Rub the affected areas often with additional coconut oil. The oil can be used on any part of the body or scalp that is affected with psoriasis.
Take a good quality B-Complex Vitamin daily.
Soothe eczema and psoriasis by applying pure olive oil directly to the irritated area using one teaspoon per square inch. It creates a seal so the skin won't dry out. For serious cases, cover olive oil applied to the skin with plastic wrap overnight. If it's on the scalp, after applying the olive oil generously into your scalp, wear a plastic shower cap over your hair overnight, then shampoo hair and rinse well in the morning.

sometimes your body will get used to things and will not react the same as it did in the beginning...kind of like if you took tylonol everyday...eventually it wouldn't work so you would use something else/ up the dose....this is the same with skin/hair...I am a hair stylist and if you have ever noticed that your hair feels like it has a build up...it's b/c you use the same thing all the time...I tell my clients to always keep two shampoos (could even be different brands) and alternate....same thing with your lotion...get a few different ones...but alternate them so your skin doesn't get used to a certain one....as for your feet...don't peel them b/c you could give yourself a nasty infection....get a foot scrubber (walmart has nice ones)...but keep in mind that your feet need to be semi rough (calussed) b/c our feet would be too tender to walk on!!!

definately see a dermatologist ASAP. they can help you out. I have dry skin bad in the winter. Eucerin cream (the white thick stuff) is really good esp. to put on at night on your feet and hands and then put socks over your feet. I like Aveeno for my face because it is gentle. Cetaphil works good too. I would be careful with oils, esp. baby oil because that may just irritate your skin worse. Have your tried that corn huskers oil stuff? Don't take my word for it-see a doc!
